Moving Bronzes
To celebrate the Mia's Royal Bronzes exhibition, featuring a colossal sculpture of the Hindu god Vishnu, Moving Bronzes brings to life the gods and goddesses of Hindu mythology, transforming the theater into a temple sanctum. The performance opens with an ode to Mahavishnu, the protector, who brought into existence the five elements, then the five senses, and finally all living beings and the natural world. Mother/daughter creators and dancers Ranee, Aparna, and Ashwini Ramaswamy explore the eternal relationship between the deity and the devotee, invoking infinite cycles of time, nature, and human experience.
Moving Bronzes intertwines transcendent music, movement, and poetry rooted in South Indian tradition that resonates across cultures. Through this visually stunning and emotionally compelling performance, Ragamala Dance Company continues its legacy of forging meaningful connections between ancient art forms and contemporary life.
The performance will be followed by an engaging discussion between Ranee, Aparna, Ashwini, and Dr. Vasudha Narayanan, Distinguished Professor, Department of Religion and Director, Center for the study of Hindu Traditions at the University of Florida, followed by a community reception catered by Raag on 50th – Modern Indian Cuisine.
