Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 6 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.
Ragamala Dance Company presents Ode to Navarathri

Ragamala presents its 3rd annual Ode to Navarathri festival at the Walker Art Center. In Southern India, Navarathri is commemorated with a Navarathri Kolu, a time when families welcome neighbors into their homes for a celebration rooted in the sharing of art. Ragamala’s annual Ode to Navarathri expands this notion into a community-wide gathering.
This year’s festival will feature five experiences: a traditional south Indian kolu (a vibrant display of figurines that is at the center of Navarathri celebrations in South India); curated performances by local artists and community members in the Walker Cinema; kolam rice flour design workshops on the floor of the Garden Terrace Room; a photographic retrospective—entitled Six Yards of Memory (with collaborator Ed Bock); and a short documentary (by Perimeter Productions) chronicling how Navarathri Kolus are celebrated by Indian-Americans in Minnesota homes.
